Alexis is a graduate from University of North Carolina's Ph.D. program in Comparative Literature, where she taught and researched in the fields of history, cinema, philosophy and literature. She has a B.A. in History from Sewanee and a M.A.in Education from UC Santa Cruz. Before becoming an educator in 2003, she worked in the International Film department  at Sundance Institute in Los Angeles. The breadth of her teaching experience includes high school English and ELL in the Monterey Bay area, wilderness skills to middle school and high school students in Colorado, and humanities and languages (French, Spanish and Italian) to college students. In 2008-2009, she taught Italian to study abroad students at Istituto Lorenzo de’ Medici in Florence, Italy. She is a proponent of Model UN as an educational tool and facilitated bilingual (Spanish-English) simulations on Catalonian secession and Central American migration in conjunction with UNC’s undergraduate-led Model UN program. She is a recipient of the Paul E. Wilkinson Award for Excellence in Teaching. Her published works can be found in Forum Italicum and Studies in European Cinema. She grew up in Carmel Valley and is thrilled to be able to return to the Monterey Peninsula and teach at York.
