NICK COBURN-PALO

Nick has been a teacher for three decades, at high schools including Taipei American School, the College Preparatory School (Oakland, CA), and the Pinewood School (Los Altos Hills, CA), and has taught at numerous universities, including Brown and Yale.  He earned his PhD and MA in Political Science from Brown University. Nick has worked with United Nations (UNITAR) for almost a decade, training diplomats in argumentative writing, speechwriting, and negotiation strategies. This has included significant work with the U.N. Security Council and the African Union.  He currently teaches online for UNITAR in the graduate program in International Relations at the University of Catalonia. Nick also has an extensive background in speech and debate, having won a national championship in college, as well as having coached the national champion in high school debate on three occasions.  He loves reading history, shooting pool, international travel, and watching sports (especially soccer). However, when it comes to ice cream, he is a vanilla kind of guy. Nick is tremendously delighted to be at York, as he has never been at an institution where people treat each other with kindness on such a constant basis as he has encountered on the York campus.
